Police outline description of burglary suspect

UPDATE: An alleged burglar caught jumping in through an open window in broad daylight, and now Police are asking for help in identifying this individual.

On Monday at around noon, what appears to be a male subject, was caught on security cameras going through an open window of a home in the 700 block of W. 10th St.

In the security camera footage seen, the suspect entered the home and then came back out through the window, fleeing the scene before officers arrived.

Though the quality of the footage was decent, the suspect was wearing a dark bandana and dark hoodie to attempt to hide his identity.

According to Yuma Police Department, they believe the suspect may be 5’10 or 6′ with an average build.

In addition to the dark hoodie and bandana, the suspect was seen wearing tan pants and dark shoes.

Sargeant Lori Franklin with Yuma Police Department said, “We did collect as much evidence as we could around there, but again, you just can’t see the face, so we hope that anybody maybe recognizes the sweatshirt or maybe the demeanor of the way they walk or act.”

Franklin said the suspect may have had an idea of when the victim would leave the house vacant.

“Most people work during the day time and if they knew that the victim worked during the day time and maybe that house is normally unoccupied, that kind of sets you up for that stuff,” she said.

YPD encourages residents to take advantage of the many locking mechanisms available for windows and doors to keep your property safe.

“Keep your windows, keep your doors locked, take those extra precautions to try to secure your stuff because it’s your stuff, you worked hard for it,” Franklin said.

Even with the addition of security cameras or tech devices like the “Ring” doorbell camera, these incidents can still happen.

“Not having it gives us nothing, at least having it we have a frame size of the person who did it, it does help give us information,” Franklin said.

YPD asks that if you saw someone who possibly matched the description, to call them at 928-373-4700.
