ADOT now offering digital license plates

Following a year of testing, the Arizona Department of Transportation is now offering electronic license plates to the public.

The plates, named as Rplate Digital License Plates, are LTE wireless connected devices similar to a tablet, according to ADOT. The license plate’s number is constantly displayed and the technology allows for messages like “invalid”, “stolen”, and other messages to be visible.

The department tested the new technology on a limited number of its own fleet vehicles to verify its capabilities and endurance based on multiple weather conditions.

With the partnership of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the plate was created with capabilities to conform to legal requirements and law enforcement best practices.

Drivers that wish to buy the plate can purchase them through participating resellers that include vehicle dealerships and professional auto service providers or the plate manufacturer, Reviver Auto. The plate’s cost is based by the manufacturer.
