CBP: 376 Central Americans detained at border near Yuma
UPDATE:
Yuma Sector Border Patrol said smugglers dug seven holes right under the border fence where the group of almost 400 illegal immigrants entered through into San Luis, Arizona.
The smugglers responsible have not been arrested.
“The United States Border Patrol is constantly building intelligence in order to combat these trafficking organizations that are constantly targeting them and gaining intelligence in order to apprehend them in the future,” said Jose Garibay, Yuma Sector Border Patrol public information officer.
Agents added that it took several hours to process all 376 Central Americans that entered into our sector.
They claimed 97 percent were Guatemalan and 87 percent were families.
Although agents are not being paid due to the government shut down, Yuma Sector Border Patrol has a strong message for locals and the country.
“Our Border Patrol agents, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to protect them and even though these large groups of individuals are crossing into the United States in this instance we will be there to stand watch and apprehend them,” said Agent Garibay.
