Officer assaulted while responding to call, suspects appear in court

Three people appeared in court Monday morning and pleaded not guilty after they were all arrested in connection to an alleged incident that led a police officer to be punched in the face and kneed.

Christopher Yanez, Christina Silvas and her son, Manuel Silvas, plead not guilty to two felony charges of aggravated assault against an officer.

Their next court date is set for February, 14.

Authorities said one man is behind bars and faces two charges of aggravated assault after striking police officers.

Christina Silvas and her son, Manuel Silvas, were accused of yelling and throwing rocks at neighbors, according to the report.

Christopher Yanez was arrested Thursday morning for striking and kicking officers, according to Yuma police.

Officers were originally responding to a disorderly conduct call when Yanez became combative, said YPD.

Yanez will be in Yuma Justice Court Friday afternoon.
