Suspect sought in a rash of burglaries
Calexico Police are looking for a suspect who might be connected to a rash of burglaries in the area of Seventh and Cesar Chavez Boulevard.
Det. Armando Orozco said, “We’ve posted photographs of him, we’ll provide to the news. Also, they’ve been posted on our social media sites for the public to see.”
Businesses owners at a business plaza on Cesar Chavez Boulevard have been hit by burglaries several times – some up to three times within weeks.
Abisai Gonzalez said, “They broke the glass door once. They broke the door another time. And then they broke in through the wall.”
Liz Gonzalez, another business owner, said, “There were burglaries here almost in all of the stores, including ours. They go in and they know what they’re doing like if they had been watching us, because they went in, got what they wanted. They took money.”
Manuel Ernesto Pena said, “They take the most expensive things, cash registers and everything, things that are essential to our business.”
They say they’ve lost thousands of dollars, are angry and frustrated. They want police to take action.
“One of those times, I saw the suspect running, and I called 911 and they said they were busy in another place. So, I followed the suspect 30 minutes and after like 40 minutes I came back to the business, and they called me, are you still there, we’re on our way. It was too late,” Pena said.
“We do need a little bit more vigilance here with the Calexico PD,” Gonzalez said.
Police said they’re having as many as 19 burglary calls per month – commercial and residential combined.
If anyone has any information on these alleged burglaries or the suspect believed to be connected to them, they can contact the police at 760-768-2140. The calls can be anonymous.
