Trial date set for man arrested for taking officer’s weapon

The man was arrested after attacking two police officers and stealing an officer’s gun appeared in court Wednesday.

Forty-one-year-old Ralph Sivyer was taken into custody in June and was wanted on multiple felony charges from prior cases.

Sivyer appeared out of custody for a final management conference.

Sivyer’s attorney requested more time so he could review the change of plea negotiations and discuss it with Sivyer.

The judge went on to set a trial date for late April.

Sivyer was wanted for possession of a weapon by a prohibited person and prohibited weapon-manufacturing.

It wasn’t until Yuma Police Department approached Sivyer in early June in a traffic stop when he assaulted two officers and took off with one of their handguns.
