Local groups prepare for the President’s Address
Before President Trump addresses border security funding on Tuesday, 13 On Your Side spoke with local organizers who said it’s important for our area to listen.
Considering this will be President Trump’s first address in the oval office during his presidency , Kenn Derby with the Yuma Arizona Supporters for Donald Trump 2020 said our area and surroundings could be affected from what is said during Tuesday’s speech.
“He should have Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi and all of these leaders in the Democratic Party and have them go down and talk to the people at the front lines of the border,” said Derby. “The people who deal with the crimes and the drugs every day.”
On the other side of the political aisle, Rina Wojcik with the Yuma County Democrats agrees that everyone should stay engaged on border issues, but be open to solutions to fixing them.
“I believe that everyone wants a secure border,” said Wojcik. “I don’t know if a wall is an answer, but certainly sections with a wall are needed. We need to look at what the Border Patrol needs and alternative methods like technology to protect our border.”
