Ask Yuma: Government Shutdown and who is to blame?

With the Democrats taking control of the House, Yuma residents are sharing their thoughts of the new takeover and the future of the government.

“What’s the point of shutting down the government?”

Armando Uribe is part of the Yuma County Indivisible and is demonstrating a call for change with a sign that reads, “Pro America, Anti Trump”.

“You don’t save money, you lose money!”

With a change of government in the new year, it’s the same shutdown everyone’s feeling.

“They need to build that wall.”

John Baxter believes the partial shutdown is past due and has been over border security.

“I think they should’ve shut everything down.”

But despite the shutdown reaching two weeks, the blame is still in question for Arizona voters. Sue Uribe believes it’s the government that is distracted from key issues.

“I want a government that gets something done and focuses on action, not the small political things.”

With border security funding being one of the reasons for the shutdown, it’s in question in a border city like Yuma.
