Police standoff ends with no arrest

UPDATE

The U.S. Marshal Service and the Yuma Police Department did not make an arrest in a standoff negotiation that lasted more than four hours with a suspected felony fugitive, according to Sgt. Lori Franklin, the team leader for the Yuma Hostage Negotiation team.

The U.S. Marshal Service was trying to issue a warrant for a felony fugitive living in a condo on Crowder Avenue near 16th Street and Avenue B. The three Marshals issuing the warrant arrived at the home around 2 p.m.

“When they thought the person was barricaded inside there, they called out our special enforcement team and the hostage negotiation unit,” Sgt. Lori Franklin said.

Over the next four hours, the team assisted the U.S. Marshals by using a flash-bang and a smoke grenade to try and get the person out.

“We wound up making entry, no arrests were made at this time,” said Sgt. Franklin. The Marshals are still looking for the felony fugitive.
