Donors who funded Boys and Girls Club seek legal action against Salvation Army
Donors who funded the building for the Boys and Girls Club back in 2014 are taking legal action against the Salvation Army. They are demanding the building stay with the Boys and Girls Club after rumors that funding could stop.
Donors are working with a lawyer and drafting a letter of demand against the Salvation Army, according to Danny Bryant, a former Salvation Army advisory board member.
The City of Yuma also confirmed to News 11 last week that it filed a lawsuit announced on December 14.
The Salvation Army announced it would cut funding for the Boys and Girls Club heading into 2019.
Bryant said the advisory board had no idea the Boys and Girls Program was going to be dropped until the former chair noticed it was not added to the 2019 budget.
“That’s when the Salvation Army had to fess up to the advisory board that those people who are supposed to be advisors as to what would be good for the community weren’t aware at all was under consideration much less was going to be eliminated,” said Bryant.
Bryant said that resulted in many advisory board members leaving the board.
“We couldn’t justify breaking our commitment to the community on the Boys and Girls Club. I believe a majority of the board left. There was something around 16 to 18 of us and probably 12 or 14 of us left,” said Bryant.
We contacted the Salvation Army when the lawsuit was announced but was told they would not speak on legal matters.
