New Year’s day baby born at Pioneers Memorial

The Imperial Valley welcomed a New Year’s baby boy that came into the world right at the stroke of midnight.

Doctors said the baby weighed in at 7 pounds and 12 ounces.

As the year turned from 2018 to 2019, Navil Valenzuela welcomed a second child. Healthy and happy and the first to enter the world in Imperial County at Pioneers Memorial Hospital.

“We never know if the baby is going to be good or what. We never know. But mine is okay,” said Valenzuela.

This mom’s due date was actually December 25. Making her new baby’s entrance even more rare , as he was about a week late.

Dr. Ameen Alshareef, Pioneers Memorial Pediatrician said, “Baby is born with no complications. He looks healthy from the minute he is born. His physical exam was total reassuring. It’s normal as expected for a healthy newborn.”

The very special New Years Day baby is named Kevin and stretches 22-inches long.

Valenzuela’s physician, Dr. Vanessa Hernandez told Navil, “To take slow deep breaths. Just really relax. Just think about her baby that’s coming and the happy times to come.”

A family starting off the new year with a lot to be thankful for.

And Kevin will forever have this claim to fame as the valley’s first born in 2019.

“People tend to forget that having a baby and labor and delivery is truly a miracle,” said Hernandez.

Valenzuela said that she’s blessed to share the birth of her second child surrounded by loved ones.
