Tragic news in the Imperial Valley as a man from Seeley lost his life early Monday morning in a fatal car accident.
The fatal accident happened in the intersection of Highway 111 and Keystone Road which left one person dead and another flown to a hospital.
Authorities said the collision occurred when a driver ran a red light.
Lt. Daniel Hesser, of the California Highway Patrol, said, “The 53-year-old man from Seeley was headed eastbound on Keystone and entered the intersection on a green light. Unfortunately, the woman that was southbound on 111, didn’t notice that she had a red light entered the intersection against the red light and collided with the man that was on Keystone.”
For this family and so many others, a devastating start to the new year.
“Unfortunately the male succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was declared deceased at the scene. Our officers responded to the collision and began the investigation,” Hesser said.
The driver in the other car was injured and flown to a hospital.
“She did suffer from some severe injuries as well, a broken leg, was transported to the hospital,” said Hesser.
CHP reminds residents to be alert when driving late at night.
Hesser added, “Anytime you’re driving late you have to drive defensively. Even if you’re on a green light, do your best to observe other traffic. Other vehicles approaching. Even if you’re driving at your very best you have to account for other people not being at their best.”
CHP said the fatal car accident is still under investigation.
