YPG and NAF military bases to remain open amid a government shutdown

Since the Department of Defense has funded its 2019 fiscal year ending in September, people working at the Yuma Proving Grounds or the Naval Air Facility in El Centro will not be impacted by a potential government shutdown.

However, with Monday and Tuesday being a federal holiday, all federal agencies will be closed those days.

The United States Postal Office will remain open amid a potential government shutdown as well.

Yuma Proving Grounds is one of the largest military installations in the world encompassing 1,307 square miles throughout western Yuma County and La Paz County. There are more than 3,000 people who work at the proving ground making it Yuma County’s largest employer.

The Naval Air Facility is a military airport in Imperial County that has two operating runways. Built May 1, 1946, the base has gone through several name changes over the years.
