San Luis PD: Officer-involved shooting leads to homicide investigation

San Luis police confirmed two people are dead in what appears to be a murder-suicide, according to their press release.

It happened Sunday morning at 6:17 a.m. on Rachel Dodge Court and Avenue F, according to San Luis Police Department.

One witness, who preferred to remain anonymous and lives nearby, told News 11 they heard gunshots early Sunday morning.

“I was startled by it so I decided to run out,” the witness said. She could hear police yelling at her to “get inside.”

Officers on scene confronted a man who fired back at the officers. One officer returned fire, hitting the man, according to police. Police said the man then turned the gun on himself.

San Luis PD said they believe one other individual was murdered. The body was found in the same residential neighborhood but found in a separate location. They said they believe the incidents are related, according to a press release.

“It is scary because I always try to sell my community as a very safe community,” the resident said.

After the incident, she and other neighbors started a neighborhood watch program to keep things like this from happening again.

The San Luis Police Department is currently investigating and will provide updates as they become available.
