CBP officer rescues family after vehicle plunges into canal

An off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer rescued a family of four after their vehicle plunged into a canal near the Imperial Valley Mall Friday.

According to CBP, the officer entered the canal and retrieved a three-month-old baby, a 13-year-old girl, 15-year-old girl, and the driver. Officials said all passengers were all okay.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost tweeted, “Because of this agent’s training, and selfless actions, four females were rescued from a submerged vehicle. Thank you for jumping into quick action when it mattered most. # Honorfirst.”
