Authorities will fine drivers for not covering loads

A new city ordinance will be going into effect next week that will prohibit trucks or trailers from driving within Yuma city limits with uncovered loads.

According to the Yuma Police Department, vehicles must plan to cover anything in the back of their trucks or trailers. The ordinance will go into effect on December 21.

Police stated that a load of scrap, debris, landscape trimmings, dirt gravel, rocks, recyclable material or any type of waste product or trash should be covered within the city limits. This will help prevent the load from falling, dropping, shifting, leaking or escaping.

During the first 60 days, YPD will only be giving out warnings. After February 21, 2019, drivers could be fined from $100 to $250.
