YCSO confirms attempted homicide stemmed from domestic violence

Yuma County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday that the victims knew the suspect who is now behind bars.

The suspect, Randy Munoz, and the female victim were in a relationship previously, according to YCSO. Munoz rammed into the victims’ vehicle after following the victims and shot into the vehicle, according to YCSO.

Both are in critical condition at a Phoenix-area hospital.

YCSO officials said they received reports of a possible road rage incident at approximately 10:54 a.m. This incident involved a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee and a white F150 truck was in the area of the 10800 block of East North Frontage Road in Yuma.

An initial investigation by YCSO revealed that deputies found the suspect inside the white truck who had fired multiple gunshots into the Jeep Cherokee leaving a man and a woman with gunshot wounds.

Twenty-nine-year-old Munoz, of Yuma, was taken into custody and is facing two counts of attempted homicide and 4 counts of aggravated assault.
