Events at the library: Week of December 3

Here are the upcoming events at the library for the week of December 3.

Food for Fines
Bring in cans of food to pay for your overdue fines during December 29, Annual Food for Fines program at Yuma County Libraries! From 9:00 a.m. Monday, December 3 until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, December 15, one dollar in overdue fines will be cleared for every 10 oz. (or larger) can of food that is donated. Only labeled cans will be accepted. No glass jars, or dented or expired cans, please . All cans of food will be donated to the local food bank. All library patrons are encouraged to bring cans for the food bank – no fines are required! 1,658 cans were collected in 2017.

Container Gardening
Meet fellow gardening enthusiasts and learn how to make things grow in Arizona! On Thursday, December 6, the Yuma County Cooperative Extension will present “Container Gardening” at 4:00 p.m. at the Main Library. Learn essential tips for growing beautiful and successful container gardens.

There is no charge to attend; however, registration is requested. To register, call (928) 726-3904.

The Main Library is located at 2951 S 21st Drive.

Pearl Harbor Day
On Friday, December 7, Chuck Wullenjohn, Public Affairs Officer for the Yuma Proving Ground, will present “Attack on Pearl Harbor and the Threat to the West Coast” at 11:00 a.m. at the Foothills Library. Learn more about the surprise military strike that led to the United States’ entry into World War II. The story of what happened is dramatic, heroic and sobering. There is no charge to attend.
