Racial slurs tagged over custom mural

Racial slurs were tagged over a custom mural sometime overnight from Friday to Saturday morning.

According to the Yuma Police Department, either a person or a group of people used spray paint behind the Del Sol Market on South Fourth Avenue. The symbols included swastika signs, ‘the n-word’, and the word ‘Mexico’ crossed off. The estimated cost of damages is worth 1,500 dollars.

The custom mural is of a mermaid with desert and jungle influences created by world-renowned artist, Ardy del Rocio in November.

Although there were several good Samaritans to patch the ‘hate’ after the discovery, YPD is still looking for potentials leads or information to follow with an arrest.

The Yuma Police Department encourages anyone with any information about this case to please call the Yuma Police Department Special Operations Group at (928) 373-4675 or 78-Crime at (928) 782-7463 to remain anonymous. Remember if your information leads to an arrest you may receive up to a $1,000 cash reward
