The Yuma Community Food Bank turns 40!

The Yuma Community Food Bank has been helping the Yuma community for 40 years now and this Friday, November 30th at 6pm they are hosting a warehouse gala event to honor all of their donors.

This gala will include a dinner from Fresh Taste Catering, a silent auction and live band and DJ entertainment with music from the late 70’s to commemorate when it all began.

Over the past 40 years the “Food Bank” has really expanded from a small house to now a large 100,000 square foot warehouse.

“Everybody is going to come and we are going to have them walk through the warehouse. We are going to have nice posters and displays, kinda showing the history of what has happened here at the food bank for the last 40 years and then we are going to have some volunteers putting together some backpacks that we give out to the schools. We can’t do our job without our donors and everyone in the community that gives us food and the financial means that we need to do what we do everyday to provide food for our clients,” said Michelle Merkley, Director of Operations at the Food Bank.

The warehouse typically feeds about 200,000 people per year and they also support about 20 non-profits organizations within Yuma County.
