Traffic stop leads police to explosives

Police in Marshalltown, Iowa arrested a man after they found a bomb in his car during a traffic stop and a search warrant led officers to a second device.

It began as a routine traffic stop Wednesday, November 21.

“At about 11 a.m. our officer spotted a car with a registration sticker violation on South Center Street,” said Marshalltown Police Department Captain Brian Batterson.

The officer then found out the driver, Timothy Kluck had a suspended license and his passenger, April Stanley, had an outstanding warrant. Then, something more serious unraveled. Kluck was also carrying an explosive device.

“It was a pipe, with a cap on each end, with gunpowder inside and a fuse to light it,” said Batterson.

Police searched Kluck’s home, and found another device, along with additional materials to make devices.
