BP breaks down common areas for illegal entries

The number of illegal entries in the Yuma Sector has doubled since last year, according to Border Patrol.

The Alamo Pond in Andrade, Calif. and the Morelos Dam in Yuma County are two locations that Border Patrol said are common areas for illegal entries.

On Friday, just yards away from the Alamo Dam, Border Patrol said an illegal immigrant who claimed to be part of the migrant caravan climbed up a tree and set it on fire. Authorities added that he then threw rocks at agents.

Border Patrol claimed this is a common area for those who are traveling into the sector alone.

“Individuals who are looking to cross illegally will climb down and swim on either side attempting to disguise themselves in the weeds and the reefs that are on either side, looking to disguise themselves from looking for them,” said Agent Jose Garibay with the Yuma Sector Border Patrol.

The Morelos Dam is a common area for family units to surrender to agents, according to Agent Garibay.

“Is a common area for individuals looking to give up to agents because they know that they’re there permanently, around the clock, ” said Agent Garibay.

Border Patrol said that in the case of the second migrant caravan approaching the Yuma Sector, they are prepared.

“Is a common area for individuals looking to give up to agents because they know that they’re there permanently, around the clock,” said Garibay.

News 11 also received a stated from CBP in regards to the clash in Tijuana Sunday.

“Over 1000 individuals who were part of the so-called caravan attempted to cross illegally into the U.S. by breaching sections of the fence and using vehicle lanes in and near the San Ysidro Port of Entry. This group ignored law enforcement agencies in Mexico and assaulted U.S. Federal Officers and Agents assigned to respond to the situation in San Diego. As a response to the assaults and to defuse this dangerous situation, trained CBP personnel employed less-lethal devices to stop the actions of assaultive individuals attempting to break into the U.S.

CBP has been preparing for weeks for events like the one on Sunday. We have seen the use of violence by members of this so-called caravan who have attacked law enforcement personnel in Guatemala, Mexico and now the U.S. CBP will consider using all approved and available resources to protect travelers, caravan members and our agents and officers.

CBP takes Sunday’s employment of use-of-force very seriously. CBP reviews and evaluates all uses of force incidents to ensure compliance with policy .”
