21 Illegal immigrants surrender after crossing into Yuma overnight

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has 21 illegal immigrants in custody after they were captured on camera Tuesday night crossing into Yuma near the Colorado River.

Night vision cameras set up throughout the Yuma sector captured the immigrants. The group is mainly made up of family units from Central America, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The video taken Tuesday night shows each individuals crossing in an area that only consists of vehicle barriers, said CBP.

All 21 immigrants surrendered to CBP. Officials continue to reiterate that the only place along the border to claim asylum is at a designated port of entry.

“Entering the United States at other than a port of entry is illegal and we will seek prosecution on those who cross the border illegally,” said Anthony Porvaznik, Chief Patrol Agent Yuma Sector, during a press conference Nov. 21.

Yuma resident Michael Reid has been living here for the past 13 years. He said not entering through the proper channels give a bad name for the rest who are.

“I don’t mind if they seek asylum, to be honest, but when I look at the news and I see how they are trying to force themselves like yesterday. That’s when I changed my mind,” Reid said. “When I saw that they stormed the San Ysidro border that’s when I was like well now I understand why the fences are being in place and everything.”

This adds to the 26 Guatemalans migrants apprehended by CBP on Thanksgiving, totaling 47 migrants in custody over the last six days. {“url”:”https://twitter.com/CBPArizona/status/1067870459494973440″,”author_name”:”CBP Arizona”,”author_url”:”https://twitter.com/CBPArizona”,”html”:”&#lt;blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”&#gt;&#lt;p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”&#gt;Yesterday &#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/CBP?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;#CBP&#lt;/a&#gt; night vision cameras in &#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/YumaSector?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;#YumaSector&#lt;/a&#gt; recorded 21 illegal aliens in family units from Central America illegally cross the Colorado River and surrender to agents.
