Local veteran saves the life of local resident

It was a routine call for Quick Refrigeration employee and former Marine Corps veteran, Kyle Cox. A customer by the name of Paul De Lintt needed his AC repaired. However, struck with a serious injury during the visit, Kyle’s quick thinking and previous experience in the military saved the life of this customer and fellow veteran.

“I was up on the roof and I came down to look for a power supply outlet for my extension cord, he [Paul] wasn’t coming to the door and finally showed up and I saw that his ankle was squirting blood,” said Kyle Cox.

Paul had cut his leg on a metal soda can inside his home. The cut hit and ruptured a major artery close to his ankle.

“He started to faint, I caught him and sat him down in the chair,” said Kyle. Thinking quickly, Kyle grabbed his first aid kit from the car, wrapped his ankle, and applied pressure while calling 911.

Those actions saved Paul’s life. Kyle previous years serving in the Marine Corps for four years could have been a major factor in Paul’s survival.

“People who aren’t prepared for something like that or haven’t trained for something like that might have been overwhelmed. Maybe not have known what to do right away or gone into shock themselves,” Kyle said. “The Marine Corps may have helped with that.”

Nearly two months after the incident, Paul fully recovered and wanted to personally thank the man responsible for saving his life.

Kyle was told to come into work and waited in his manager’s office to be talked to. Meanwhile, the whole Quick Refrigeration team and Paul gathered in the conference room.

Jimmy, Kyle’s manager, brought him into the conference room where he would see Paul for the first time since the incident.

At first, he wasn’t aware what was going on and who the person at the front of the room was, Kyle said. But when he got to the front he knew exactly who that was, exchanging greetings.

“I am here to say thank you, literally, for saving my life,” Paul said to Kyle. Thankful for the actions taken that day Paul had Olive Garden catered for the entire Quick Refrigeration team.

It was a small token of gratitude Paul could do for the man that was able to step in when he was nearly unconscious, a move that saved his life, Paul said.
