Cambridge consultant visits two YUHSD schools

Cambridge Education Consultant Alison Borthwick visited two Yuma Union High School District campuses last week as part of her tour of U.S. education institutions.

Borthwick spent time observing classes and talking to teachers and students at Yuma High School and Kofa High School last week.

“Cambridge is doing a tour of United States schools and focusing on mathematics to see if they can be more supportive,” YUHSD Ready Now Yuma Director Eric Brooks said. “We are one of Cambridge’s flagship districts.”

At Kofa, Borthwick observed construction and math classes and talked in a roundtable about how to get math more common in students’ every-day language. She visited welding and math courses at Yuma High and spoke to approximately 40 students.

“I think students and teachers as a whole walked away empowered to do things and think more geared towards math,” Brooks said. “Moving forward, teachers will attempt to be more deliberate in using real-world examples of how math is used.”
