YFD deploys firefighters to battle California fires
The Yuma Fire Department has deployed four of their men to help battle the wildfires in California. This is the second deployment for the fire department sent to help California with these destructive fires.
For 24 hours, the firefighters were battling the ‘Camp Fire’ in Paradise, Calif., but was re-directed to the ‘Woolsey Fire’ in southern California.
“They’re firefighters. Whether they are at a fire scene in California or they are protecting lives and property here in the city of Yuma from time to time they never know what they will find themselves in,” said Mike Erfert with the Yuma Fire Department.
Erfert said that another possible group might be deployed in the upcoming days to help fight the deadliest fire in California history.
“Whether that’s on a deployment like this or here at home, they face many of the same challenges,” said Erfert .
Yuma firefighters are expected to return back home in the next two weeks, but that can change at any time. News 11 will be following up with the brave men and their journey battling the fires in California.
