Palm Tree fire spreads to homeowner’s garage in residential area

Multiple agencies responded to a palm tree fire behind 2100 West 8th Street in a residential area on Sunday morning in Yuma.

With the wind’s force, Yuma Rural Metro fire crews arrived at the scene to stop the fire from spreading to multiple homes. After several hours of containing the fire, debris from the palm tree spread to a resident’s garage and alleyway.

Yuma Fire Department and Marine Corps Air Station Fire Department were then called to the scene to assist with the hotspots after the fire was put out. Yuma Country Sherrif’s Office was also on scene to keep the area safe from nearby residents.

There were no injuries reported but the American Red Cross was called to assist the homeowner with damages and a place to stay temporarily.
