Local veterans moved nearly to tears by ceremony

Local veterans are moved nearly to tears during a ceremony recognizing their sacrifices.

SDSU-IV in Calexico showed their appreciation for the countless men and women serving in the military in celebration of Veterans Day. The names of local veterans were read during a brief ceremony at the Rodney Auditorium in the presence of a small group of veterans from the area.

After that, students from two junior high schools joined the veterans in the planting of flags at the Veterans Memorial nearby. Each student showed their appreciation by shaking the veterans’ hands and said, thank you for your service. The veterans said they were deeply touched by the ceremony and the students’ actions.

Army Veteran Efrain Morales, Jr., said, “I get a little emotional every time that we get recognized, because you don’t hear about it that much. Especially nowadays.”

U.S.M.C. Veteran Donnie Patrick Goodson, Jr., said, “It’s my duty to provide a service for my country. And for people to recognize it, it does a lot for me.”

Army Veteran Frank Pacheco said, “Proud that I have served my country. And proud that people that people recognized our sacrifices.”

This is the 10 th Annual Veterans Day celebration at the campus in Calexico.
