Agents in Yuma arrest man and immigrants attempting to smuggle meth

The U.S. Border Patrol says its agents have seized more than 30 pounds (more than 13 kilograms) of crystal methamphetamine worth $91,000 and arrested five people they suspect of trying to smuggle the drug into the United States.

The agency says officers working near the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint in western Arizona north of the border with Mexico made the seizure and arrests early Wednesday evening.

Those arrested included a 25-year-old man from Mesa, Arizona, who was driving a car stopped by the agents. Also taken into custody were four people identified as Mexican migrants who were in the U.S. without permission.

The drugs turned up during a search of the vehicle.
