A group of undocumented migrants caught at San Luis Port of Entry

Over 400 undocumented migrants were caught on camera attempting to enter the United States east of the San Luis Port of Entry this week, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“In those groups, there was a mixture of people coming from Guatemala, El Salvador and even from Honduras,” said Border Patrol agent Jose Garibay.

CBP said the migrants that crossed those evenings varied from ages two through 48. Garibay said they have seen an increase in family units crossing along the southwest border.

“A difference we have seen here is from the fiscal year 2005 to 2018, we had caught 138,000 individuals and in 2018 that number went up to 26,000 people. Now, we’re seeing a majority of these people who are crossing are family units and most of them are coming from Guatemala and other Latin America countries looking to claim asylum,” said Garibay.

Agents released a statement to News 11 about how they are preparing for the arrival of the migrant caravan that is currently heading north.

“The United States Border Patrol is monitoring the situation along the southwest border and the caravan that is coming from Central America. We are assessing the capabilities of our facilities throughout the Southwest border,” said Garibay.

There is no word yet on how many troops will be coming to the southwest border or when they will arrive.

Border Patrol had no comment on that matter. Agents did tell News 11 that all sectors are working together to prepare for the migrant caravan that will be here in just a few weeks.
