Driver hospitalized after two-vehicle crash

A driver was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash at South Avenue B and County 21st Street in Somerton Wednesday afternoon.

Somerton Cocopah Fire Department said personnel responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision at 4:25 p.m. and found a rear-end collision with significant damage to both vehicles.

Authorities said a white GMC Trailblazer heading northbound made a complete stop due to road repairs. For unknown reasons, fire officials stated that the red Chevrolet Suburban ran into the Trailblazer. The driver of the red Suburban sustained a bloody nose when he was struck by the deployed airbag. The driver of the Trailblazer complained of a stiff neck and pain to his right arm.

The driver of the Trailblazer was transported for further examination to Yuma Regional Medical Center while the Suburban’s driver refused transportation.

The incident is being investigated by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office.
