Five Arizona propositions to appear on the November ballot
UPDATE: Polling places are open from 6 A.M. to 7 P.M.
On the November ballot, there are five ballot measures pertaining to Arizona ranging from topics on energy to education.
Proposition 125 would allow for adjustments to an elected official’s or a correction officer’s retirement plan.
These adjustments would be based on cost-of-living adjustments rather than permanent increases of benefits.
Proposition 126 prohibits the government from increasing taxes various services.
This would keep state and local governments from enacting or increasing tax rates on services performed in the state.
These services may include things such as various economic activities not involving tangible goods like salon services, pet grooming or doctor visits.
Proposition 127 requires 50 percent of energy to come from renewable sources by the year 2030.
If enacted, this measure would require electric utility companies to acquire electricity from a certain percentage of renewable sources such as solar panels, wind, hydropower or landfill gas energies.
Proposition 305 would expand the Empowerment Scholarship Accounts Program.
Passing of this ballot would expand the program to make all public schools eligible to apply for an ESA.
The original program allowed parents or guardians of students with disabilities opt out of public school and instead receive a scholarship that could be applied to private education or homeschooling.
By 2021, all K-12 students would be eligible to apply for an ESA.
Proposition 306 designates unlawful contributions from clean election accounts and removes commission exemption from rulemaking requirements.
This measure would prohibit candidates from using public financing accounts to give funding to political parties that may influence candidate elections.
