Imperial County Registrars of Voters prepares for tomorrow’s midterm elections
The Imperial County Registrar of Voters is putting the finishing touches on what looks to be a busy midterm election.
Debbie Porter, of the Imperial County Registrar of Voters, said, “We have a raise in registration. Our registration numbers are up as our early voting numbers. As of yesterday we have 10,000 a little over 10,500 vote by mail ballots have already been returned.”
Election officials say they’ve been reaching out to the community to improve a historically low voter turnout.
“We’ve had weekend voting, we have attended several local events that have gone on. Chili cook-off, Octoberfest in Imperial. Trying to get people interested in coming in to vote,” Porter said.
Poll workers are being trained to make sure voters are filling out ballots correctly.
Porter added that, “It’s important that everyone trains on election day to help the voters. That’s what we train. They are there to help the voters on election day so voters can vote their ballot. Their ballot is secure till it can be counted.”
Workers are readily available on the phone to help voters make informed choices.
Registrar of Voters Clerk, Jane Hurtado said, “Especially on election day, any questions they have they can call us. For us it’s a good thing and for them to call us so that way they get the correct information.”
The midterm election begins on November 6. Polls open at 7 A.M. and closes at 8 P.M.
