Christmas comes early…and for a good cause

Christmas is coming a bit early for the volunteers of Dollars for Dogs Cash for Cats.

In the upcoming weeks, the local animal-loving group is working towards their Christmas tree, wreath and gift auction.

This event provides a way to get a fully decorated tree that will provide funds for a good cause.

The trees available will be tabletop size up to 5 feet.

Brad Dierdorf, a volunteer with the group will be delivering trees to the successful bidders’ house.

Dierdorf will be delivering the trees on the Monday following the auction.

The group has been working for months in order to find a location for the event, collect auction items and find volunteers to decorate trees and wreaths.

Sherrell Judish, the group’s secretary was looking online for a location to host the event and came across the Senior Living Center on S. 4th avenue.

Judish was inspired to host this event after participating in a successful event with the Humane Society: Festival of the trees.

On November 14, 15, and 16 from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M., the public is invited to the Senior Center to view the decorated Christmas trees and auction items available for purchase.

Gift items include the decorated trees, wreaths, centerpieces, jewelry, handmade birdhouses and gift coupons.

Then, on November 17 from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M., there will be a reception and live auction featuring a guest presentation by the San Luis Police Department and their K-9 team.

“The officers are so appreciative of us doing this,” Judish said.

The Dollars for Dogs Cash for Cats group has been working to raise money towards bulletproof vests for the SLPD K-9’s which cost about $1,200.

Funds raised will also be split among local animal groups such as old souls, emergency vet bills, and capture and release.

If you would like to donate additional auction items or catering plates to be used for refreshments, you can contact Judish at 928-580-1000.
