Man barricades himself in room during arrest

One man barricaded himself in the Rio Santa Fe apartments Wednesday night, according to the Yuma Police Department.

YPD verified Gabriel Aguirre-Barrena, 31, had two felony warrants for his arrest, according to Sergeant Lori Franklin.

At 5:15 p.m. officers attempted to make contact with Aguirre-Barrena, who then barricaded himself in a room inside the Rio Santa Fe apartment complex.

YPD’s special enforcement unit then responded to the scene.

Aguirre-Barrena was then arrested and booked into Yuma County Adult Detention Center on a probation violation and an in-state but out of county violation, both felony charges.
