Suspect sought for vandalizing family advocacy center

A local family advocacy center is searching for the suspect who vandalized their building overnight on Sunday.

Amberly’s Place is a staple in the Yuma community and helps victims of domestic violence and protects children from harm. Staff members of the center are now questioning why someone would vandalize a place that does so much good.

According to Amberly’s Place, they found three security doors and a company car damaged with dents made with a hammer.

Trevor Umphress, with Amberly’s Place, said that the incident was captured on their surveillance cameras where you can see a man in a black hoodie making his way around the building before walking down south on Third Avenue.

Umphress added that the center has been funded by the community for 17 years . He mentioned how it’s a shame someone would do this for no clear reason.

“I know the doors are brand new and they’re roughly 1,500 dollars, so I’m not quite sure the cost to fix things as we speak,” Umphress added.

The Yuma Police Department is currently investigating the case. If you happen to know any details in regards to the vandalism, you are encouraged to contact YPD or Amberly’s Place.
