Locals react to Vice President and Congresswoman McSally’s arrival

There was a vast difference in the turnout for Vice President Mike Pence’s visit Friday in Yuma compared to President Donald Trump’s visit this past August.

There were very few people at the Yuma County Fairgrounds Friday afternoon. However, when President Trump came a few months back, there were several supporters and protesters out in full force voicing their opinions.

Here is what some locals had to say about their views on the arrival of the two Republican political figures.

“We’re supporters of the agenda, the federal government is interested in agriculture and they are very interested in the border and securing our borders. We’re all about that,” said Bill Coles, a Yuma local.

“I don’t believe in a wall stopping the immigration problem. What we need to do is help support the countries that the immigrants are coming from, so they don’t feel like they have to leave {their respective countries} but to close our borders is I think un-American. America was built on immigrants,” said Bill Butler, a Yuma local.

The “Get Out and Vote” rally started at 5 p.m. and approximately 1,500 tickets were available for the public to attend.
