Groundbreaking ceremony kicks off street improvement project

City officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday morning for the 2018 Street Overlay and City Parking Lots Rehabilitation Project in El Centro.

City officials displayed the latest road improvements made throughout El Centro including the resurfacing of La Brucherie Avenue between Barbara Worth and Lincoln Avenue. Officials also highlighted the proposed improvements to be made to parking lots located in downtown El Centro.

El Centro Mayor Cheryl Viegas Walker emphasized the importance of public safety during construction and the use of eco-friendly products in their infrastructures.

“This is really a win-win for the city of El Centro. Because we have the construction project going on. The resurfacing of La Brucherie. And we’re using environmentally friendly products which would otherwise be waste tires that would end up in our landfill or other places,” said Viegas Walker.

City officials hope the projects will be completed at the end of January 2019.
