Two teens face terrorism charges for school threat
The two students who were accused of making threats to Yuma-area high schools Monday are now facing charges of terrorism, authorities said.
Yuma police said a witness overheard the two 16-year-old students making threats. Both students attend Desert View Middle and High school.
News 11 spoke with one Cibola High School parent who said she’s afraid for her children’s safety.
“Before then, schools were to go have fun, learn, and socialize. Now you’re sending your kids and think what might happen and what if they get hurt. It can happen anywhere, if it’s happened in Florida, in New Jersey, it can happen anywhere,” said Juanita De Santiago.
Lori Franklin with YPD said that authorities will treat every threat as a real threat.
“It’s not a joke and it will not be taken as a joke anymore, because of everything that’s happened around the country. It can no longer be taken as a joke,” said Franklin.
News 11 reached out to both schools involved in the incident, but they did not have a comment.
