Town of Wellton receives $1.3 million in federal funds

The town of Wellton is helping low-income residents with housing rehabilitation projects and expanding construction with the help of federal funding.

Wellton received $500,000 from the Community Development Block Grant Colonia Set-Aside funds and $385,000 from the Home Investment Partnership Program for low-income owner-occupied housing rehabilitation activities.

Wellton will also receive $481,075 from the 2018/2019 CDBG Regional Account funds for construction of an expansion to the Wellton Fire Station and purchase of much-needed firefighting equipment.

Approximately 40 percent of Wellton’s housing stock is more than 30-years-old and in need of rehabilitation due to health and safety issues, according to the 2010 census.
