How you can “Cut for a Cause” for those battling cancer

Yuma residents will be given the opportunity to donate hair for those battling cancer at the Cut for a Cause event sponsored by Sheltra Insurance on Sunday, October 21.

Sheltra Insurance has sponsored the event every year and owner Jessie Sheltra made the big chop to celebrate the big 10th year in hosting the event.

Sheltra believes this event will help a lot of cancer patients feel a sense of freedom.

“It’s very helpful for them to have a sense of who they were before cancer entered their lives so if I could play a small part in having someone feel good about themselves and put a smile on their face then it’s all worth it.”

News 11 got to witness the moment she cut 10 inches off and her response was priceless.

“Lighter. I’m very excited. It will be a lot easier to maintain. ”

Those who donate will need to cut a minimum of eight, 10, or 12 inches of hair. Volunteers who do not wish to cut their hair can donate liquid nutrition or participate in another form.

A rainbow theme is set for the event and community members are encouraged to wear different colors. All the proceeds raised at the event will go towards the American Cancer Society Resource Center here in Yuma and other programs.

The event is from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Yuma Regional Medical Center Cancer Center.
