Head Hunters gang member apprehended by Border Patrol

Border Patrol agents arrested a Head Hunters gang member who was suspected of illegally entering the United States near the Calexico Port of Entry Thursday.

According to a press release, the incident happened at about 2:09 a.m. Agents arrested a man believed to have illegally entered the U.S. near the Calexico Port of Entry. Authorities determined the man was a Mexican citizen illegally present in the country.

Records check identified the man as Benedicto Anthony Cifuentes who had a prior criminal record. Cifuentes was convicted of felony robbery by force or fear in 2004 and was sentenced to four years in prison. In 2007, Cifuentes violated his parole and returned to prison to finish his original term.

In 2016, Cifuentes was also convicted for illegal re-entry into the United States and served three years in jail.

Authorities said Cifuentes admitted to being a member of the Head Hunters (HHS-13) gang from Los Angeles. He will be held pending criminal prosecution.
