“Wreaths Across America” honoring our Veterans

Even though we are just in the month of October, the holidays are not too far away and because of that we are highlighting an organization that honors our fallen heroes.

On December 15th, a memorial service is taking place at both Desert Lawn Memorial Park and the Sunset Vista Cemetery in the Foothills. The idea is for the community to raise enough money to purchase Christmas wreaths and place them on the graves of our fallen veterans. This is something that has been done annually for years and in 2017 they raised $8,000 in charity funds.

“We want to remember all the people, men and women who have served our country and have fallen. We’re fundraising all over the county. We have boxes out in several restaurants and places of business,” said Apryl Brand, Chairman of Wreaths Across America.

Wreaths are $15 each and shipped from Maine to Yuma. Last year about 600 wreaths filled the cemetery in Yuma during the Holiday season. The wreaths are made out of Maine balsam trees and have a red bow attached. If you want to help out and honor our veterans, you can send a check to Mrs. Brand at 510 East 26th Street, Yuma, Arizona 85365. They will also be holding events all throughout the month of November. The deadline to donate is November 23rd. Wreaths Across America is a 501c3 organization. Please email wreathsforyuma2018@roadrunner.com for more information.
