CBP arrests two in failed smuggling attempts
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two men in separate smuggling attempts at Port of San Luis this week.
CBP officials said the first incident happened Thursday morning when officers referred a 46-year-old Mexicali resident to secondary inspection. A CBP narcotics canine alerted to the vehicle’s spare tire where officers found packages of methamphetamine inside. The drugs weighed more than 10 pounds and are valued at over $31,000.
On Friday morning, officers sent a 30-year-old man, of San Luis, Ariz., for further inspection at the pedestrian crossing. Records check confirmed that the man had an outstanding arrest warrant for marijuana possession. Officers then searched the man and discovered a package of methamphetamine taped around his leg. The drugs are estimated to be worth nearly $600.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicle. Both men were arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
