Three arrested after attempting to flee from Border Patrol

Border Patrol agents arrested a U.S. citizen and two illegal immigrants after they attempted to avoid capture by fleeing in a vehicle Saturday evening.

At around 10 p.m., agents at the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint referred a white 2008 Chevrolet Malibu to secondary inspection after a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle, according to CBP. The driver instead sped off.

Agents chased the vehicle that soon pulled over in the Ligurta rest area. Authorities eventually stopped the vehicle as it attempted to get back on the interstate. The driver, a 55-year-old woman, and two men who were Mexican nationals that were illegally present in the United States.

The woman, a U.S. citizen, was charged with harboring illegal immigrants.
