Man sentenced to 145 years for firing shots at officers

A Cottonwood man was sentenced to 145 years in federal prison for his convictions for firing gunshots at law enforcement officers who went to a Tucson hotel to arrest him on a warrant.

Jack Witt Voris was sentenced Tuesday in Tucson for his assault and other convictions stemming from his arrest after a five-hour standoff at the hotel in late October 2016.

Authorities say the 47-year-old Voris slammed the door at the hotel room when federal and local law enforcement officers went there to arrest him.

They say Voris fired shots at officers, but he eventually surrendered.

A jury convicted Voris on the charges in February.
