Man nearly drowns trying to illegally enter U.S.

U.S. Border Patrol agents rescued a 29-year-old man after nearly drowning near the All-American canal Wednesday night, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Agents responded near the canal at approximately 11 p.m. and observed three individuals trying to enter illegally. One of them was waving his arms and screaming for help.

CBP said agents arrived at the scene quickly and positioned a rescue flotation device near the man in efforts to save him.

After the rescue, the man declined medical attention and was later transported to El Centro station to be processed for illegal entry, according to CBP.

The other two individuals absconded back to Mexico during the rescue.

“Our Border Patrol agents are highly skilled and trained to effect these types of rescues,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. “I am so proud of our El Centro Station agents for their decisive actions in saving a human life.”
