8th annual Wellness on Wheels flu campaign
The 8th annual “Wellness on Wheels” flu campaign officially started on October 2nd. It’s a way for people of Yuma County to get free flu shots for the year. The shots are being offered for those three years old and older.
The process is simple as you don’t need an Identification Card, but just information on your previous and current health status. This opportunity is great for those that don’t have insurance or the necessary funds for their medical needs. In addition to getting your flu shot, there will be additional staff on site for free glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings. This year the campaign has added two new locations, one of which are in San Luis.
“We do encourage our patients to visit their medical doctors on a regular basis, but this is just one of the things that we do for our community to give back to the patients. Of course we do understand that some people may not have access to medical care because of insurance or price so this is an opportunity for people to get some medical attention,” said Adriana del Rio, Outreach & Enrollment Specialist for Sunset Community Health Center.
Rio also says that if you have children, you can bring their immunization card so they can document that your child has received their flu shot for the year. In addition, The Imperial County Public Health Department will start offering flu shots this Thursday, October 4th during normal business hours. The cost for the flu vaccine is $5.00.
