Local Fire Department is handing out sandbags to San Luis residents

The San Luis Fire Department is handing out over 500-hundred sandbags to San Luis residents in preparation for heavy rain that is expected to hit the area Monday and Tuesday.

Fire Captain with San Luis Fire Department, Jose Barragan, said the area is more prone to power outages.

“Yes, food and flashlights are always advisable to have flashlights handy, anything you need for power outages,” said Barragan.

A resident of San Luis, Luis Marquez is making sure he and his family are fully stocked with the basic essentials.

“We have a lot of water, some candles, some flashlights, and also some food. We made sure to get canned food, in case we can’t cook we have some canned food,” said Marquez.

Barragan said how it important it is to avoid driving some of the rural roads if possible for two days, but if you are on the road, to not be afraid to pull over.

“Please, stay off the roads, would be the best during heavy rain, there a lot of car accidents. Don’t drive on the road if visibility is impaired,” said Barragan.

Residents are encouraged to call 911 or the San Luis Fire Department at (928) 341-2420 if you need any help with any assistance.
