Kayaking in Hurricane Rosa

A little curiosity can go a long way, especially for Matt Lichtenhan kayaking in a Yuma neighborhood. “You know the streets are flooded and it’s not the first time.” Matt said he always wondered if his kayak would be able to move if there was enough rain, but what started as a nice experiment away from the heat, turned into a ‘helping hand’ for a neighbor in a storm. “There was a lady who was looking out to her car which had gotten stranded and ended up getting flooded out.” Matt said the woman had asked him if he could pick up her luggage from her car after failing to do it herself with water up to her waist. “I think she was just seeing it more as an opportunity without her stuff getting damaged and fallen into the water.” An act of kindness that came at the right moment. “She was just there, and she asked for help” With most of the area of Fourth Avenue and 27th Street now completely dry, Matt is already thinking of the next time he’ll go kayaking.
“It was just spurred at the moment,” said Matt. “Why not? Let’s just have some fun with it. ” Matt’s kayaking video has thousands of views and shares on social media and is described as a ‘fun moment’ in the desert rain.
